Spain international Pedro scored a nine-minute hat-trick as Barcelona overturned a two-goal deficit to lead La Liga going into the winter break.
Getafe led 2-0 inside the opening 15 minutes after Sergio Escudero drilled in after a neat one-two and Lisandro Lopez powered in a free header.But Barca, without the injured Lionel Messi and suspended Neymar, led before half-time thanks to Pedro's treble. Cesc Fabregas scored twice more as the champions moved above Atletico Madrid.
Gerardo Martino's side knew they needed to beat eighth-placed Getafe with anything other than a 1-0 win to move back ahead of Atletico, who won 3-2 against Levante on Saturday, on goal difference.
The Spanish top-flight has a two-week mid-season break over the Christmas and New Year period, with La Liga clubs returning to action on 4 January.
While much of the pre-match focus concentrated on Barca's ability to cope without attacking duo Messi and Neymar, it was the away defence which was severely questioned in the opening stages at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
They went behind when Escudero exchanged passes with Angel Lafita before firing home from close range.
And four minutes later an unmarked Lisandro jumped above the Barca defence to nod in Pedro Leon's corner - leaving Barca coach Martino looking visibly shocked on the touchline.
But the Catalans' revival began as Pedro proved he could deliver in the absence of Messi and Neymar with trio of a clinical finishes.
The winger raced on to Fabregas's pinpoint pass and then watched his chip have enough power to evade Getafe goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya's grasp.
Pedro then cut in from the left flank to curl an unstoppable shot into Moya's top corner from the edge of the area and, just two minutes later, collected Jordi Alba's cutback to calmly slot in his third. Barcelona enjoyed a measure of control after the break before ending Getafe's unlikely ambitions of mounting their own fightback with the fourth goal.
A wonderful team move saw Sergio Busquets break on the counter attack, before finding the supporting Pedro whose right-wing cross was emphatically volleyed in by Fabregas.
And the ex-Arsenal player added another from the penalty spot after Pedro was clipped by Getafe midfielder Borja Fernandez.

Time for a break. La Liga wrapped up for 2013 on Sunday as both Barcelona and Real Madrid sealed hard-fought wins, with the Catalans ending the year on top of the table and Atletico in a very close second.
Attentions now turn to the winter window, with a chance for those three to strengthen their teams in order to mount a sustained challenge for the title in the second half of the campaign.
So, here, Goal takes a look at the plans for Barca, Madrid and Atletico in January, as well as the priorities of some of the other major teams.

However, there are still other matters to resolve for the Catalan club, with defender Marc Bartra out of contract in the summer and yet to pen a new agreement, and Martin Montoya's future also up in the air amid interest from Liverpool.
Barca do not want to lose either player and will step up negotiations with the pair in the coming weeks, while coach Gerardo Martino is also keen to recruit a striker in the winter window.
Both Robert Lewandowski and Sergio Aguero have been considered, but neither will accept a role on the bench at Camp Nou as the Catalans seek a player who can make an impact similar to that made by Henrik Larsson during Frank Rijkaard's time as coach.
Benfica's Oscar Cardozo and Lazio's Miroslav Klose are still being monitored by Barca, but the recent form of Cesc Fabregas, Pedro and Neymar in front of goal - plus the imminent return of Messi - means the Blaugrana are now unlikely to strengthen until the summer.

Pedro: Atletico Madrid are in the title race
The Barcelona winger believes that there are three candidates for the Liga crown this term, and he is delighted with his own form
Barcelona star Pedro believes that Atletico Madrid are well and truly in the Liga title race this term as Spanish football heads into its winter break.
The capital club recorded a 3-2 victory over Levante on Saturday and currently sit joint-top with the Blaugrana, who they host in January.
And the Spain international feels that his side will have to see off competition from Diego Simeone's men as well as Real Madrid if they are to retain their crown.
"Atletico have had a sensational return, they're a strong title candidate," he told reporters after scoring a hat-trick in Barca's 5-2 win over Getafe.
"Real Madrid are the stong team - they always are.
"Between now and the last day of the season we will play much better. It was a momentous match we couldn't lose."
Pedro's treble took his tally for the season to 14 in all competitions and the 26-year-old believes he is in the form of his life.
"I feel good physically. I have the luck of scoing goals, I'm on a roll. It's important to bring something to the team. The team's reaction was great."
Barca and Atletico are both five points clear of third-place Real Madrid.

Cada jugador tiene sus motivos para querer ser el ganador: Ribéry no ha marcado muchos goles (22) pero ha dado 28 asistencias y ha sido uno de los culpables de los títulos que ha ganado el Bayern durante la útlima campaña. Leo Messi, por su parte, se defiende con 45 goles,16 asistencias y la Liga conseguida con el FC Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo ha sido el máximo goleador con 67 goles y 18 asistencias pero en títulos anda vacío.
